Only kind of, because reaver does not activate with bombard. Cannon auto gets played more now outside of auto decks since he's got 5 health. Cannot say what's better though, depends on too many things.

Still hate Hired Marksman. :)

Cannon Automaton is pretty good now, especially with Piercing Projectile in the deck. Playing him off a Power Trip turn 3 vs Growth with a Gun Auto or similar in front is quite strong if you have Projectile in the deck, almost like a beefier Arbalestier (!). Without Projectile, he is iffier.

There was time when 4 health hired marksman would have been amazing, but I think that time has passed. If you really need a way of dealing damage behind enemy lines, Stormrunner can do that and SO much more.

The buff from 4 to 5 health on Cannon Automaton changed it from complete pushover to a force to be reckoned with. The extra health is super relevant when things like arbalestiers and Earthen Mirth ragged wolves are so popular.

Hm thanks both of you for your ideas, seems like I'll rework by deck somewhat ;)

Is Ironclad Reaver still better than Cannon Automaton in non automaton-tribe decks?

Ironclad Reaver was and still is played instead of Gravelock Elder after its nerf, not Cannon Automaton imo. Cannon Automaton wasn't great but it was still playable in Bombard decks. At least I did. Now I would argue it's the best unit for ranged energy. I usually try not to sac it even when I have it in my starting hand.

I agree about Hired Marksman, though I have to admit I never actually played him since the buff. The biggest issue for me is that you cannot insta-haste him with a bombard from hand.

Haven't played much energy in ranked recently but that is the deck I've played around with: http://scrolldier.com/deck/3292

I've been having quite a bit of success with Aggro Energy for the past two weeks or so. Of course Aggrowth can overwhelm you sometimes and I lost a match to LGG with Quakes and Frostgales but it never felt like I had no chance. What really surprised me is that it usually stomps on Decay. Some matches were close but as of writing I haven't lost to Decay yet. Also TO seems to be slightly in my favor.

That's the latest version of the deck: http://scrolldier.com/deck/3724

I think you should really try it out to get an idea though, since I was skeptical at first too. Let me know what you think ;)
