Patch Date Announced

Good day everyone,

Today the news that everybody has been looking forward to has finally been announced, on Monday 21st October Scrolls will be updated to 0.108 on the live server.

If you haven't been keeping up with the news about what this patch will bring and why it will be considered by most to be one of the most important in the games history then here is a quick break down of what to expect.

Judgement Mode

For a long time now the Scrolls community have calling for a "limited" format in scrolls, Judgement is Mojang's answer to their pleas. Judgment will bring a whole new dynamic to the game, with the lower deck size of 30 scrolls and there being no unique scroll limited in a deck there are sure to be some crazy things happening in the future.

Spectator Mode

Spectator Mode is a way in which you, the player, will be able to view other games that are currently being played by other people. By simply searching through your friends list or by clicking on "Watch Live Games" on the Main Menu you will be able see games that are currently being played (on a time delay) which you can then view at your pleasure. This will certainly aid Tournaments in the following months to come, something which was greatly missed in the recent ESL Tournament.

44 New Scrolls + 2 New Precons

Lastly there will be the addition of 44 new scrolls. These new scrolls are sure to help define an entirely new meta, something which I am sure a lot of us can't wait for. There is also the factor of some of the existing scrolls such as Iron Ogre, Pother and Transposition for example which are to be either nerfed or buffed in order to help balance both the game and the scrolls themselves. Two new Precons will also be added, both are Multi resource and both look very fun to play indeed.

If you didn't read any of the past News posts that we have made on these subjects or just want to see all the above in more detail then here are the links to the posts that we have made on what this upcoming patch will hold.

Judgement Day!
Test Server Update 0.107
Test Server Changes
Balancing some Scrolls
Test Server Update 0.108

So be on the look out for next Monday for new scrolls, new features, new gamemodes and of course loads of new players.

Until next time

Blinky + SG Team

P.S. Here is Mojang's post on the subject

P.P.S Cost of Judgment also confirmed to be either 150 shards or 1000 gold. Gold rewards for game losses will also go up, gold rewards for winners will also go down, only slightly though :)

Good lord even the new cards on shop like the Week of Decay?
I should make Scrolls work with a proxy.

Increased Gold gain for lost matches
Over time, we’ve discovered that Scrolls can be a bit hard on new players. For that reason, we’re awarding approximately twice as much gold for multiplayer losses. To compensate for this, win rewards have been reduced by around 10 per cent.

This is a tiny, neat change and not as huge as the other ones for sure but I really appreciate that :)

Man, where is the double gold Monday when we need it?

Any news about how the new scrolls will be distributed? There were rumors about a set 2 or something, so you wouldn't have to go through all the old scrolls again to hopefully get some new ones?

The 44 now will complete set 1! All future scrolls will be part of a different set and marked thusly!

Love the gold increase for losses. Good cahnge! And good to have a date :)

Actually not exactly.

How I read each set will be of 60 card, 15 for each faction. So with this release in theory we'll get 4 sets.

That is good news! Thanks :)

Can't wait guess I'll be farming up some gold for judgement.

Really excited for the new cards. It seems like growth is going to be pretty fierce with sister of the owl and untainted.

What's this talk of sets that I keep reading about? This is the first I've heard of it.

I didn't get one thing.

Will i be able to play judgment with my friends or it will alyways be random?

Great news, but the game will be even more broken with watcher in it :(
A decay/growth with rat king splashed with order for summons will be a nightmare

Watcher will be the new puppet soldier, It will get nurfed once they see how ridiculous it is with draw combo.

I'm actually amazed how little has been said about it so far.

Puppet Soldier was borderline-OP with Nutrition, Watcher is interesting but only with a combo of Rat King - Necrogeddon, very good but It needs more build and it's only Idol advantage and not field advantage.
By the way, 3 damage is ridicously good, even the ratio Cost/Health is pretty ridicolous, cheapy wall with an awesome effect.

Pretty sure it will not. Not debating that Watcher might be strong but Puppet Nutrition happened instantly at very low cost (1 Growth and 3 decay which you got back). If you want to do a watcher/Necrogeddon/Ratking/Summons combo you need 8 decay 1 order and 4 Growth. That takes a LONG time to get there and the 9 idol damage are still randomized. We'll se how this combo works out but i wouldn't panic over it. i would be surprised if it was broken ^.^

WHat bugs me about Watcher is that he's a strictly better obelisk... make him cost 3 or give him 4 health so he's not strictly better (same for the new growth 2/3 drop for 2 compared to Tool initiate btw). CCG imo should never have strictly better cards!
MansOlsonMon 14 Oct, 2013 10:39 PM
I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment that no scroll should ever be strictly better than another (compare Beast Rat to most other 1-drops), but I think you might be right when it comes to Watcher and Obelisk. I'll consider changing it (probably either taking down Health by 1 or increasing cost by 1).

Yes, it is only idol damage, but 3 idol damage at a very cheap price. And yes rat-geddon combo with it is very strong. But there is other ways to make it quite scarry, which i hope to explore ;)

Hint: Corrode.... take it to the bank

I think the cost increase would be the beneficial way to balance it.
DrAkulaMon 14 Oct, 2013 11:38 PM
Decay is already pretty 3-drop heavy (kind of like the opposite of Growth) so if theres any nerf I'd prefer the -1 Health.
But then again: one scroll compared here is a common in one color, the other a rare in a different one. Not sure if anything requires changing there.

I agree that CCGs should always avoid strictly better cards. It takes the choice away if you would never play a card because there is a card which is better or equal in every possible way. The strictly worse card might as well not exist.
However, this doesn't qualify.

Imagine a mono order deck which uses Obelisk. Now swap out the Obelisk for Watcher. Is the resulting deck better or worse than it was before?

In order for a card to be strictly better than another, it must have the exact same (or lower) casting cost, not just the same numerical casting cost.

Obelisk is a terrible card, Watcher is a good, possibly great card, but Watcher is not strictly better than Obelisk.

I'm confused about Unforeseen Onslaught giving Slayer to units with attack 1 or less. Aren't you required to inflict damage to proc Slayer?
