Each scroll requires the use of resources. The amount of resource can be increased by sacrificing the scroll for resource. For example, Brother of the Wolf costs 4 Growth to use, you must have 4 available Growth to place it on the Game Board. You can increase the amount you have of a particular resource by sacrificing a scroll in your hand. A scroll of one resource cannot use another resource (Growth scroll cannot use Order resource).
Cost of a scroll is shown at the top of the scroll where the number represent the amount of resource and the picture/colour shows the resource type. There are four resource type:
